The power of gratitude

Deborah Norville wrote a book called, “The Power of Thanks.” Honestly, I have not had the opportunity to read the book, but I was fascinated by the title. You get a special feeling when you say “thank you” to someone. It enhances relationships and people receive love through a heart of gratitude. In fact, most employees will tell you that an expression of gratitude from their boss is sometimes worth more to them than their paycheck. A “just because” note, verbal affirmation, a warm hug or pad on the back can go a very long way. It is no secret that people love to receive thanks when they do a good job. The problem with our society today is that we do not value gratitude as much as we should. We take many things and many people for granted.
There were once ten hopeless men Crippled with a devastating disease. Each one met with a doctor that specialized in miracles and all ten were healed by the doctor’s spoken word. Out of all ten men, only one returned to thank him. Jesus mentioned the act of this man and his gratitude for the miracle, but never made mention of the other nine.
Power is released with thankfulness; it makes your life and the lives of others more enjoyable. When was the last time you hugged your children and gave thanks to God for them? When was the last time you embraced your spouse and gave thanks to God for him or her? When was the last time you thanked God for your job, co-workers, and even your boss, regardless of how nice or tough he or she may be? When was the last time you thanked God for a beautiful day at the park, or for just for having the ability to walk, talk, see, feel, and smell?
In the USA, we have dedicated an entire day for thanksgiving, but have unfortunately transformed it in to a day full of sports, food, get-togethers, and shopping. In many cases, we have forgotten that it was meant to express thanks to God for our beautiful nation.
There is power in your life when you are thankful to God. In gratitude, why not dedicate your life to Him? You must only confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. He is the one who came and died for you to have an abundant life. Be thankful to God for all He has done for you.
